Definition of family

When we talk about family, we are talking about a pot that is family, i.e. a pot in which several players are involved. The majority of these pots are limp pots, which are pots in which no one has raised preflop. The majority of Hold'em pots are played heads-up after the flop. There are also so-called 3-way pots, when 3 players see the flop and from 4 or more players onwards, you can really talk about a family pot.

How to play family pots?

There is no magic formula for playing family pots, but let's just say that the best advice we can give you is to play the pots more conservatively. You can always bluff one or two players after the flop, but when you're 5 on the flop, your bluffs will be much less successful and you're probably better off not calling them in multiway (family) pots. The average hand that will win the pot on the flop will also be stronger when you are in a family pot. If in heads-up you can win a pot with top pair, in family pots this will be rarer.
