Definition of UTG+1

The player in the UTG+1 position is the player who speaks immediately after the player in the UTG (under the gun) position. On a 6-max shorthanded table, the UTG+1 player will also be called the hijack player. The UTG+1 player should be as careful as the UTG player and play a fairly tight range of hands. Some shorthanded tables will have 5 players. On such a table, the player in UTG+1 position will be called the cutoff.

UTG, UTG+1 and UTG+2

If you are playing at a shorthanded table, there will be a big difference between the UTG, UTG+1 and UTG+2 positions. The UTG+2 player will be able to open many more hands than the UTG player, but when you are in a casino on a 10-player table, there won't be much difference between the range of hands you can open from UTG, UTG+1 and UTG+2. You will have to play them in much the same way. From these positions you will have to play fairly tight.
