Definition of round

In French, we speak of a round. Rounds are periods of time in a tournament. When we evaluate the structure of a tournament to know if it is interesting or not, we will evaluate several details, including the rounds. Rounds are the time periods of the tournament. A time period can be 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes or even longer in large tournaments. A round will have specific blinds and antes or not.

Example of several rounds of a tournament

Here is a typical example of the different rounds of a tournament. The first round is 10 minutes long. During this round, the blinds will be 25/50 with no ante. After the 10 minutes of play, we will move on to the second round. During this round, the blinds will be 50/100 and there will still be no ante. By analyzing the rounds, you can see if the structure is slow or not. If in round 10 the blinds are 2500/5000 with 500 antes, you know it's a fast structure. Depending on your goals, this may or may not be good news. Generally, the longer the rounds, the more the tournament will benefit the good players since the variance will be lower.
