How do I use Jennifear's Push or Fold table ?

Before explaining how Jennifear's Push or Fold table works, let's first explain who it is for. The Jennifear board is for tournament and sit'n'gos players who have 20 big blinds or less on their table. With 20 or more big blinds in tournaments or sit'n'gos, the player will have less room to maneuver and sometimes, rather than playing several streets (flop + turn + river), the player will want to reduce his options to "push or fold". The Jennifear board could also be used for cash game players who would play shortstack, but this board is mainly designed with tournament players in mind

The board tells us the EV+ range to push all in. If you are in the button position for example with 10 big blinds, the best game to make will often be push or fold and not to raise in the conventional way

But, you may ask, which hands can I push all in with profitably? Jennifear's painting will answer this question. Let's see its sections and how it works

Choosing whether there are antes or not

If you notice, there are 4 options and you have to choose the option that fits your situation. Antes are a bet taken from each player at the table. Generally, antes, when present, will be equal to 10% of the size of the big blind. For our example, we will select "No Ante"

The Position

After specifying that there is no ante, you will need to indicate your position. For our example, we will click on the SB to indicate that we are in the position of the small blind

The later our position is, the larger the range we can push all in with. For example, we will be much tighter in our all in position Under The Gun (UTG) than in the small armor (SB) position. In addition, the smaller our mat, the more permissive the all in range will be. It should never be forgotten that at some point in the tournament, simply winning the blinds will greatly increase the size of our mat, especially if there are antes in addition to the blinds

The size of the blinds

How many blinds do you have? For our example, we will have 10 big blinds. Most players have good instincts about the range to push all in with very few big blinds, but at 10 big blinds it's harder to instinctively evaluate the optimal range to push or fold

How to read the table once the options are selected

If we start from the beginning, we decided to analyze a tournament situation in which there is still no ante. We have 10 big blinds on the small blind and we want to analyze the push or fold range

The board has different colors for easy reading. The black column identifies the push range when we have 10 big blinds, the blue column indicates the push range when we have 11 big blinds, etc.

For the example that interests us (10BB, SB), we can profitably push all in (push) with a range of 56.6%. To tell us what this range corresponds to, we have some indications. To save space, we often use the "+". For example, instead of writing 22, 33, 44, 55, 66, 77, 88, 99, TT, JJ, QQ, KK, AA, we simply write "22+". The same is true with the other hands. In our example, we see Q2s+ (a lady with a matching 2). The mention of the + tells us that Q3s, Q4s and Q5s on the upside are also profitable push hands

The sign "s" means "suited" so cards of the same suit.

Tips when using the Jennifear board

The Jennifear board is a tool to help you make decisions in tournament play. It's a practical tool to give you an idea of what profitable hands to push all in. Most beginner players will probably realize that when you are shorstacked, you need to play very aggressively and push all in with multiple hands. As a general rule, in tournaments, players are not aggressive enough when they are shortstacked

When a hand is at the limit of what you can push all in, evaluate the opponent(s) speaking after you. If we take our example above, 64s is one of the weakest hands you can profitably push in this situation. If the player who speaks after us is a calling station, perhaps we just want to pass and wait for another hand. In other words, we will want to fold our hand. The board wins in the long run against the average player, but nothing prevents you from adapting when you have information about your opponents. Conversely, if you're up against a very tight player, you might want to push all in with a hand like 25s that isn't even in the board. You will make this decision based on the knowledge you have of your opponent calling at too low a frequency. In the absence of information, follow the chart to the letter

It is important to note that the hands shown on this table are hands that should be played all in (push). In the long run, you will benefit from following this chart, but it is important to understand that if you follow it, you must be all in and not just raise

Moreover, among the hands to push all in, there will obviously always be monsters like AA, KK and QQ. On the other hand, if you are playing against an aggressive opponent, you can always play your hand differently so as not to make him fold. For example, you could for example limp or simply raise normally to set a trap for him

But beware; if you are known to play push or fold when you have, say, 10 big blinds, perhaps your more attentive opponents will find it suspicious that you are limping. If you file every time you have AA, KK and QQ and play the rest of your row in push or fold, it won't take long for the best players at the table to figure out what you're doing. That's why some players won't hesitate to push all in, even with AA and KK to balance the times they will push all in with weaker hands like 25s and 36s
